| London - Summer Festivals | ||||||||||||
In the summertime, Londoners love their parks where they often meet friends and family for some serious football or cricket action, or go for a filling picnic with friends and family for a day out. Pubs welcome you in their beer gardens, where you can enjoy the lovely mild climate of South East England, while chatting to your mates with a refreshing pint of beer or ale. With numerous parks and green spaces scattered around its vast area, the British capital hosts a high number of concerts and festivals during the summer period. Roger Waters and The Who will be the main attractions of the Hyde Park Calling Festival at the beginning of July, and James Brown will be guest at the first Tower of London Music Festival, which will take place from the June 28th to July 15th. The Notting Hill Carnival is another "must-see" event at the end of August; this is a unique opportunity to get together with half a million party-goers dancing along to Caribbean sound system vibes, and tasting some lovely traditional Chicken Jerk.A few dates to note: June 26th to July 13th - City of London Festival: Classical Music.

| Madrid - Veranos de la Villa | ||||||||||||
Each summer, the city of Madrid puts on a rich and eclectic programme of interesting cultural festivals, shows and exhibitions. The "Veranos de la Villa" is one of the city's main festivals, which takes place in the city's majestic halls and parks, and is sponsored by the city's council for both locals and tourists to enjoy. In 2005 the festival attracted thousands of visitors who came to see many international artists, including Jane Birkin, Dido, Daniela Mercury and Steve Winwood. Madrid's inhabitants are of course also well known for their partying, and during the hot summer months this becomes even more prominent; come nightfall many of the city's areas will be alive with the sounds of flamenco, tango and jazz, and streets will be full of dancing, partying and entertainment until the early hours of the morning. June 13th - San Antonio de la Florida Day: A celebration of Madrid's unmarried female inhabitants. |

| Rome - Estate Romana | ||||||||||||
During the summer, Rome seems like a different city, almost gone is the non-stop traffic, and the ancient streets, often shaded by thousand-year old buildings, become easily accessible to tourists and locals alike. Ten years ago the city would almost have shut for the whole of August, traditionally the month when Romans take their annual holidays and visit the surrounding coastline. But now you will find that throughout the summer months, the city offers some of its best entertainment. One of the main festivals is the "Estate Romana" (Roman Summer), run by the city's council, it is an umbrella name for numerous concerts, exhibitions, open-air cinema and festivals that take place throughout the city and often in some of the city's most splendid palaces and private parks. The Estate Romana runs throughout the whole of the summer (June 21st to September 21st) and many of the concerts are for free. And don't forget Rome is also not far from the coast, so you can always spend a day relaxing and bathing at the beach, like in Ostia, a popular local destination since the Ancient Roman times. June 21st to September 21st - Estate Romana Festival |

More music and dance shows will also take place at the Jardin des Tuilleries, on the Défense esplanade, and other unusual places; jazz music at the Arènes de Montmartre from July 26th to July 31st, and numerous free concerts from classical music to DJs and folklore music.
