London With a an area of 609 square miles (1500 km2) and a population of more than 10 millions inhabitants representing most of the world's nationalities, London is surely the most cosmopolitan destination in Europe. The city's thriving diversity can be found everywhere you go and it is difficult to find a place that offers so much to its visitors. While walking through the busy streets you will realize that the world comes to London for many different reasons, but the city's diversity is one common characteristic that attracts the people to come here.
With diversity comes of course choice and again you have a lot to choose from in London – fascinating museums with free entrance, beautiful green parks and typical English gardens, international musicals, plays and opera shows, ultra modern architecture, Victorian and Georgian architecture, world-class shopping, haute couture, street fashion, pop culture, galleries, exhibitions, rock concerts – in fact the list could easily go on and on...
Even with its diversity, there are several aspects that make London quintessentially London, such as the Houses of Parliament, pinstriped suits, Buckingham Palace, the local pub, red double-decker buses...
So you could simply pop on a double-decker to the City with its abundance of international banks and multinationals housed in some of the city's most impressive buildings and where old and new seamlessly merge. Then continue slightly further east to Brick Lane, and enjoy an authentic vindaloo or korma for just a few “quid” at one of the many curry houses scattered around the area. And then possibly finish your day off with a visit to the famous Tower of London.

In May, the people of Madrid often meet in the two festive areas of the city; Plaza del Sol and Malasaña, where there are many bars, restaurants and nightclubs open till late.
A lot happens in the city during this month, firstly with the celebration of the "Dos de Mayo" (May 2nd), which commemorates the people's uprising against Napoleon's forces which had occupied the city, and then there is the celebration of Saint Isodoro, the patron of the city on May 15th. San Isodoro is celebrated over 2 weeks of festivities, including free concerts ranging from folklore music to Jazz and Blues.
It is also the start of a month of bullfighting at the famous arena of Las Ventas, with the participation of Spain's best "torreadors". On the 15th, the natives dress up in their "chulapos" and "chulapas", traditional male and female costumes, and dance all night long.
Birthplace of the "Movida" (the country's socio-cultural movement after the death of Franco), Madrid is a modern and cosmopolitan city, and often shows a more dynamic and creative aspect than its eternal rival Barcelona. Among the numerous attractions that the city offers, there is the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, where you can admire the Guernica from Picasso, as well as numerous works from Dali, Miro and Juan Gris. The Prado Museum is also a must-see, as it houses one of the world most famous art collections with works from Goya, Vellasquez, le Greco, as well as some works from Rubens and other famous European painters.

15th May: Festival of Saint Isidore
